Winding Down the Banh Mi

If you really liked the Banh Mi special you should hurry in early this week (July 9th). It was a great special and we enjoyed offering something completely different but it's time has expired. We should run out of pulled pork for the sandwich somewhere around Wednesday or Thusday at current rates of consumption. Watch this space for news of what comes next...

One bit of good news for you spice lovers: The Ox decided to keep the the Sri Racha sauce around as part of the hot sauce collection. Who knows, we made find a new use for it!


A Taste of Vietnam

This month The Ox is bringing out something new to most of us South of the River. If you often eat at small Vietnamese shops or restaurant you may have had a Banh Mi. If not then hurry on down to the Blue Ox to broaden your horizons!

Traditional Vietnamese Banh Mi sandwiches feature pickled veggies (carrot & daikon), fresh cilantro, fresh jalapenos, sliced cucumbers, mayo, pate and a little bit of meat. Keeping in mind our personal tastes and what we know about our customers The Ox has decided to skip the pate and increase the amount of meat to make a more substantial sandwich.

In the small restaurants in St. Paul and Minneapolis the meat filling can be anything from grilled chicken or pork, Vietnamese colds cuts, mock duck (??hmm??) or BBQ pork. In other words, just about anything. At The Ox we decided to go with a nice tender home made pulled pork. We season it with Chinese Five Spice and top it with a little sauce made from Lemongrass, garlic and Sambal Oleek.

We suggest you try it just the way it is designed to get the full effect. The only option we are offering is "spicy" or "not so spicy". If you pick spicy we add a good dollop of Sriracha. Available from now until at least the end of May...


Hot Beef Season Winding Down

If you like our Ultimate Hot Roast Beef better hurry in in the month of March. As a seasonal item it will go into retirement on April 1st. It will be back again with the cool weather in October. The good news is the Chicken & Strawberry Salad will come back in April....


Monster Chili Dog is Back

Just as we have every January since 2008, we brought the Monster Chili Dog out for January (and probably part of February too). In case you have forgotten, the Monster Dog features a full 1/4 pound all beef frank from Hormel. To that we add our special home made Texas Chili, some spicy brown mustard, sweet relish and fresh chopped red onions. If that sounds not quite right then we make your way with any toppings we have. The Monster Dogs are going fast at $4.99. Guaranteed to induce an afternoon coma, or at least a strong desire for a nap.
