Brisket is Back

We hope you remember the Classic Texas Brisket from last year. It was a big hit. We start with a full 1/4lb. of sliced smoked brisket and add some BBQ sauce, pickles, onions and coleslaw just the way they do it back in the Lone Star State. It will melt in you mouth, but only for a limited time. Mosey on down to The Ox during the month of February and get yours while you can.


It's Italian!

Mama Mia that's real Italian. For those of you that have spent much time around Chicago the concept of the Italian Beef will be very familiar. People sit on bar stools and stand around water coolers every day debating who has the best Italian Beef. Is it Al's #1 Beef or is it Johnnie's or even Portillos? Whatever the preference the locals can be found eating Italian Beefs at spots all around Chicagoland.

For the rest of November and most of December you won't have to go to Chicago to find out who is right. The Ox is prepared to brag that we have the best Italian Beef in Burnsville, or say 'south of the river", or maybe even all of Minnesota! And by the way you don't have to be from Chicago to like one.

Italian Beef recipes vary according to whose grandmother cooked up the secret recipe but the basics are all the same. Plenty of thin sliced beef, warmed in a special "Juice" which is also applied to the bun. This is topped with green peppers sauteed in olive oil and the whole thing is topped with some hot Italian Giardniera. The net effect tends to be pretty spicy and full of flavor. That's how we do it at The Ox. It's a limited time offering so come on down soon, and bring your Chicago ex-patriot friends with you for a taste of home.


It's That Time Again!

The forecast for tonight is rain turning over to snow. We knew it was coming sooner or later so the Cold Weather Special is back in service. House cooked top round, house made gravy, house made mashed potatoes and fresh slices of soft egg bread. Known in the diner business as the Roast Beef Commercial this lovely plate delivers the ultimate in comfort food. Available from now until mid March. Come be comforted!


Laissez les bon temps rouler- Sandwich style

Let the good times roll this month with a New Orleans style Muffuletta. The Muffuletta is a New Orleans local classic made up of Italian meats and cheeses along with a tangy olive and giardiniera relish. In New Orleans they make the Muffuletta up as a giant bomb of a sandwich that weighs about 3 pounds, then they cut off quarters or wedges and sell them cold. For the Blue Ox version we have opted to make an individual size sandwich and give it a quick toast as we do with all of our signature sandwiches. The Muffuletta gets Salami, Ham and Mortadella and Mozzarella Cheese along with a generous serving of Olive Relish on a big white roll, all for only $6.99. Put a Brisket in Your Basket!

We featured a Smoked Brisket Sandwich last fall and it was a big hit- so it's back for another go.

A full quarter pound of thin sliced, smoked brisket, served classic Texas Style on a toasted bun with coleslaw, pickles, onions and some dark sweet BBQ sauce.

It's a Texas classic for a reason- It's really good! Come on down to The Ox and we will rustle one up for you, from now until about the end of March.
